About Happy Cats
Happy Cats Cat Sitting is run by Helen Hyde with the help of her husband Roy, a retired Classics teacher. Helen lived in Rome for seven years and returned to the UK in July 2007, setting up Happy Cats on her return. She has always loved cats but benefitted in Rome from the experience she gained volunteering for a period in a Roman cat sanctuary and then working on her own with local street cats.
Her aim was, and is, to provide a high quality cat sitting service which takes the stress out of holidays and business trips for you and your cat. We all know that cats are happiest at home, but finding the right cat sitter can be difficult. Nobody wants someone who just pops in, gives the cat a pat on the head, checks its food and water and then leaves! Happy Cats prides itself on being different: Helen and Roy have a wonderful rapport with cats and give them quality time and affection. As Helen says: “we are not a replacement for you, but we are a very good substitute!”
All this with our fabulous feedback, CRB check and excellent references mean that you can leave knowing that your cat is in the best possible hands!
AND WHAT ABOUT HELEN AND ROY’S OWN CATS?
In March 2008 Helen was lucky enough to bring Rigatone Hyde, her rescued Roman street cat, to Tunbridge Wells. He was, in Helen’s own words “the cat love of my life” and they adored each other. He died in April 2013 and Helen ran the Paddock Wood half marathon in a t shirt commemorating his life (and raised more than £700 for Guide Dogs!). Her knees are still recovering! .
Helen and Roy’s penchant for cats needing a forever home continued with the adoption of Chanel, a 17 year old Tonkinese and ex client, who lost her sight shortly after they adopted her. She was an inspiration: she was so courageous and unfazed by going blind and ran the household just as bossily as before! She too is much missed.
The Tonk theme continued with the adoption of Susha, aged 16 and also an ex-client. Although already ill with kidney disease, she lived a very happy 18 months with Helen and Roy and made them laugh endlessly. There is nothing quite like a bossy and loving Tonk!
So that leaves Helen and Roy with just 3 cats: Timmy, Rosie and Jess aged 5 and all siblings. They were adopted in September 2015 after their owner died and are known to clients and on FB as the F3 (or the Furry Threesome). Each has a very different personality and their exploits keep Helen, Roy and the FB followers much amused!
